BAC was set up by nine artists who met through the common interest
of life drawing classes, who all live within 15 minutes of Banff and Macduff in the north east of Scotland on the Moray Coast.
Although we are each very different in our history, our training and how we approach art, we have common beliefs. Working
away from the cities makes meeting other artists, exchanging ideas and creating projects together harder to achieve. We decided
to set up our Collective to do the following things:
- To empower and inform artists through becoming part of an artist-led
organisation and through the provision of training opportunities and discussion forums.
- To facilitate artist exchanges and communication with national and
international artists and artist groups.
- To provide educational projects to encourage a wider understanding
and awareness of contemporary art
That’s what our constitution says, and what we do is meet
to eat together, talk about our own work and meet other artists, exhibit, run classes and workshops and support initiatives
in the area such as Coast Festival.
We are interested in exchanging with other artist’s
groups. We can organise accommodation and studios for visiting artists, and although we have no dedicated exhibition space,
we can organise temporary exhibitions.
